Default Keys and their cost

Hello All!. I new and I could not find a discussion for this topic. If I have placed it in the wrong thread, feel free to move it to the correct one.
Thanks!
PhantomAoJ

Now to the question:
Why are the keys so expensive? I read the update files, but I have not gotten anything from the new chest to come close to recouping the cost of 1 elona key (450 gp).

I don't have billions racked up and I don't seem to get a lot of cash or items to sell from my runs. So the cost of the keys really hurt.

I understand that the new system was put in place to make the chest fairer, but the price tag is killing me.

I don't mind losing 50 to 100 gp when I open a chest. But I have lost on average 400gp per key (for Elona) and over 500gp per key for Shiverpeaks.

I have a couple of suggestion:
Keys are current prices (maybe up the lower one a little), but they can be reused. (if possible put a limited number of "uses" on it?).

Lower the price to range from 100 to 250 max, but good for a single use

Or create a "lockpick" set that can be used instead and set it up like the standard ID and Salvage kits?

Comments, Suggestions, Answers?
Thank you a very Broke War/Monk.

You don't have to use the chests. Its gambling, plain and simple. You may get something good, but you probably will simply get something OK.

The drops have definititely been improved, I'm getting about 2 golds per run into Sorrows Furnace at the mo. And even better, loads of people seem to be looking for minion masters in there...

To Brute Blake:
Well, I mostly getting blue and purple items from the chest. Usually 1 item per chest. Many of the purple Items, were nothing special at all except the title was purple.

To Babychaos:
The chest as gambling is true to a degree. But My drops are not supporting my ability to grow (keys aside) into new armor, weapons and skills.

But it doesn't stop me from having fun, it just reduces the fun somewhat
Thank you both for responding

The entire point of adding keys into the game is for you to lose money by using them.

IMO, the chests in the lower level areas are pretty useless (what with everyone getting max damage weapons at level 5), but the ones in Southern Shiverpeaks have VERY good drops.
